Getting ready to buy your first EUC?
You probably have a few questions and we are here to try and help.
When you are new to any new sport or hobby, there are a couple questions to ask yourself and electric unicycles are no different. No one wants buyers remorse so if you answer these 5 questions honestly, you should be able to find the perfect motorized unicycle for you.
5 Questions To Ask Yourself Before Buying An Electric Unicycle
- What Is The Primary Use For Your EUC?
- Height And Weight
- What Is Your Budget?
- Are You An Adrenaline Junky?
- How Far Do You Want To Go On Your Rides?
1: What Is The Primary Use For Your EUC?
There are many uses for electric unicycles but normally people have a main use in mind. If you plan on commuting to work as the main use, you will want a very different wheel then going on trail rides. If you plan on going for longer rides, then you need to focus on a few wheels that have massive batteries.
So, the first thing you need to answer is where do you see yourself using your EUC most often:
- Hobby Leisure
- Trail Riding
- Longer Cross Country Rides
2: Height And Weight
Depending on your height and weight, there are certain models that could work a lot better and feel more comfortable. If you weight over 200lbs, then it limits the wheels that we recommend. If you are shorter, the case of the wheel could play a big role as well. For example, if you are under 5’8″, we wouldn’t recommend the Gotway Monster or Kingsong 18S as the cases are fairly large and would be difficult to maneuver.
3: What Is Your Budget?
Now we aren’t going to beat around the bush, electric unicycles are not cheap. You will have to invest a considerable amount when getting into the sport. However, your investment will last if you pick the right wheel. There are some amazing beginner wheels that are easy to work into yet will give you everything you need for years to come. The top choice for a great beginner wheel that won’t limit you on speed or capability is the Gotway MTen3. However, if you only plan to commute long distances or go offroad, its 10 inch wheel will be limiting. However, in our opinion it also is the best value for the money, and the most fun!
4: Are You An Adrenaline Junky?
You should be able to answer this question fairly quickly. If you are, we can pretty much recommend the Gotway Monster, Gotway MSuper V3 S+, KingSong 16S, Gotway Tesla or the Gotway ACM V2 (there are many new wheels that are just being released that will probably take over this category; Monster 100V, KingSong 18L, InMotion V10, Ninebot Z10, etc…). If you aren’t and are focusing on commuting or basic rides, you will want a much lighter wheel with a lower top speed. There are plenty to choose from and this is where the trolley handle, speakers, and connectivity come into play.
5: How Far Do You Want To Go On Your Rides?
If range and distance are a top priority, it all comes down to the battery size. Some models even allow you to add additional batteries. We will have a full spread sheet available soon to categorize each of the categories and our top choices for each. Stay tuned!
